Chido Cleopatra Mpemba is a dynamic Zimbabwean diplomat and the youngest-ever appointed African Union Special Envoy on Youth. With a passion for youth empowerment, digital transformation, and climate action, she has represented the largest youth demographic globally at critical international platforms, including the United Nations and the G20. Her focus is on building policies that address the most pressing issues for African youth, including peacebuilding, governance, and sustainable development.

Chido’s leadership extends beyond diplomacy—she has founded impactful initiatives like the “Make Africa Digital” campaign, equipping thousands of young Africans with the digital skills they need for the future. Her work is fuelled by a commitment to ensuring that Africa’s youth have the opportunities and tools to thrive in an ever-evolving global landscape.

Chido Mpemba’s achievements are vast and multifaceted, with a focus on driving youth leadership and inclusion across Africa. Her role in co-chairing the World Health Organization’s Commission on Social Isolation has allowed her to address critical issues around mental health, advocating for youth wellbeing in global health discussions. 

Beyond her work with the African Union, Chido has been a strong advocate for climate resilience and girls’ empowerment. Her collaborations with organisations like the European Union and Plan International have supported efforts to tackle the digital gender divide and promote sustainable development. 

As the youngest-ever appointed AU Special Envoy on Youth, Chido represents over 870 million young people across Africa. In this role, she advocates for policies that prioritise youth empowerment, peacebuilding, and sustainable development, while ensuring young voices are included in international governance.

Chido launched the “Make Africa Digital” campaign, an initiative focused on bridging the digital divide for African youth. This programme has successfully trained over 4,000 young Africans in essential digital skills, equipping them to thrive in a tech-driven global economy and future-proofing Africa’s workforce.

Serving as Co-Chair of the WHO’s Commission on Social Isolation, Chido collaborates with global health leaders to address mental health challenges, particularly among youth. Her work focuses on crafting policies that foster social inclusion and mental well-being in a post-pandemic world.

As a member of the UNICEF Generation Unlimited Global Leadership Council, Chido contributes to strategies designed to unlock opportunities for young people worldwide. Her focus is on education, skills training, and employment, ensuring that Africa’s youth are well-positioned to lead in a rapidly changing world.
